Making A 30 Day Commitment

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Alright guys, today is the day! It's time to commit to something that you will... or won't... do every day for the next 30 days. I've got some guidelines that I think might be helpful. They are as follows:

  1. Make a list of all the little things you'd like to do for yourself, and another list of the things you wish you didn't do to yourself. The longer the lists the better.
  2. Now, go through your lists and cross out all the things that have the word "should" attached.
  3. Delete everything that takes more than ten minutes to accomplish.
  4. Also delete anything that you would do, or not do, more than once a day. We're going for easy here. We're looking for something that you do one time, each day, so you can right away say, "OK, mission accomplished. Am I cool, or what!"
  5. Mark off anything that would cost money or require resources that you don't already have available, right now, today.
  6. Because we're doing a daily project, remove anything from your lists that isn't something you would, or wouldn't do every day for thirty days. A once a week commitment is great, but not right for this particular project.

Important Points:

  • Whatever you choose to commit to needs to be something interesting enough or beneficial enough to give you a nice little pay off by the end of the 30 days. In other words, it must be worth the effort it takes to do it.
  • Don't get complicated. Keep it simple. Simple doesn't always mean easy, but easy is good too.
  • Shorter is better. If you make a decision to commit to something that will take more than 10 minutes out of your day, be sure that you really do have that extra time to allot for it.
  • Choose something you actually WANT to do. This is very important! If you don't really want to do it, you'll do everything possible to sabotage your success.
  • Be realistic. Don't set yourself up for failure by commiting to something you know you can't accomplish. For example: Saying you will do fifty push ups a day, when you can't even do five. In a case like that, better to commit to three push ups a day. Three is better than zero, and by the end of thirty days, you might even be able to do ten!
  • Remember, this is a project designed to help us learn how to make small commitments to ourselves and keep them, it's not a challenge to make a larger than life commitment. Baby steps folks... we're taking baby steps here.

Also, very important:

  1. Once you've made the decision about what you are committing to, write it down where you will see it every day. It may surprise you how easy it will be to forget to do it!
  2. It's up to you whether or not you share your commitment with the other people in your life. I find that I'm more likely to keep a promise if everyone around me knows about it.
  3. Be accountable. Post a comment here at The Prosperity Project every day saying "Yes, I did my thing." Alternatively, post it on your facebook page, our facebook fan page, your blog, or even twitter. You could write it on your calendar, put a sticky note on your refrigerator, text or call family or friends. It doesn't matter where or how, just that you write it or say it somewhere every day.

Are you ready?
What are you waiting for?
Go do that thing!

So, I asked the oculatum (love that widget) how I should decide which commitment to make, and it said:

We are not one,
nor the other,
but all.

I assume this means it doesn't matter what I choose? The effect and the end result are the same?

Online oracles... I'm so glad they are amazingly accurate and true! It allieviates any need to think for myself. LOL

PS. Is that how you spell allieviate? aleveiate? alliviate? where's my spell checker when I need it?

Decision made: Gulp!

I will do one Reiki Healing Attunement every day.

The idea being to start first with myself and then graduate to other interesting scenarios such as long distance healing attunements on family, friends, and other groups of people, attunements on pets and plants, maybe even crystals and stones... I dunno.

I figure I'll need plenty of practice what with all the classes coming up - and I'll be curious to see how well the long distance attunements work and also what effect healing attunements have on plants and animals.

Yes, it sounds ambitious. But one attunement - with only one person present (me) doesn't take all that long, even when it's intended for a group, and I can do them in my pajamas if I want to... so... I think I've followed the 10 minute rule.

Whoopeee... here we go! I'm going to start right now! Why am I scared?

My decision made too !

A drawing a day (10 minutes - 1/2 hour). Haven't drawn anything in ages, am rather rusty now. I am already looking forward to seeing the progress I will have made by the end of the 30 days . :-)

I love your ideas! Reiki and art/creativity! Parts of our spirit that deserve a little time each day that we tend to ignore! I'm sticking to my 50 sit-ups a day. I did it yesterday AND got a walk in at lunch. I think sometimes doing little things like that has a domino effect. "OK, I did my sit-ups..do I really want to ruin it by eating something bad?" Perhaps one thing leads to another when you are taking positive action.

I was thinking about doing something with fitness as well but I changed my mind. In the past it has been challenging for me and I realy wanted to pick something easy so I chose to meditate for at least 10 minutes a day instead.

Sudha - a drawing a day! I love it! and totally support you in your doing of it.

Karla - you almost had me talked into the 50 situps thing - only I was going to wimp out at say... 5. So you go girl! And I too noticed a domino effect. Once I did my attunement, I suddnely felt like doing other things that I've been putting off for weeks.

Jennielee - meditation sounds good. When I talked to Daniel, that's what he said he was going to do also. (he has no internet right now so can't speak for himself and I'm taking this opportunity now to tell all his secrets!)

And I'm so glad I posted that Oculatum saying... we are not one, nor the other, but all... it almost feels like I too am drawing pictures, doing sit ups, meditating, and yes... attunements too. Better go get that done ASAP!

Mine is to bless my food each day. I think what I will do is every morning, whatever I eat first that day, I will bless that particular food and include whatever else I eat that day. That way I'm only doing it once a day. This is something that I have said I was going to do regularly for years, and yes, I WANT to do it!! I just forget! Have been forgetting for years! So now I'm gonna do it, darn it!!
