Did we do it?

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Hey guys, I think we did it! And now that we've come to the end of our project, it's time to weigh in with comments and commentary on what we thought about it, how well it worked for us, what the results have been, and whatever else you'd like to share.

Here's a list of questions to get the dialogue started:

  • How well did you do with keeping your commitment to yourself?
  • Was there a pay off at the end? In other words, did it work the way you hoped?
  • What do you think contributed most to your success? (assuming you succeeded)
  • What was your greatest stumbling block?
  • Would you do it again?
  • And if so, what would you do differently?
  • What would you do the same?
  • Do you have any advice you'd like to share with someone who is thinking about taking the 30 day challange of keeping a commitment to themselves?

Ok... I jumped the gun and posted this a day early! Looks like I'm getting pretty anxious to be done!

Confession time ! We went on a short holiday when I couldn't keep up the drawing....and after we got back I just never got around to getting to it again. :-(

But I love the idea and plan to restart my monthly commitment today, maybe with a do-able 10 minute something, and not an ambitious a drawing a day which took me anywhere between 30-60 minutes.

Wish me luck....

Well, I feel like I did pretty well. I think I missed a total of 4 days but I was definitely inspired by the project and could think of lots of new "once a day" commitments I would like to try.

The stumbling block for me remains family and my desire to be dedicated to their needs first. That and stress. I noticed that as life stresses occurred, like family arguments, my daughter's health issues this month, my car breaking down..these things seemed to mentally turn off a switch to my commitment for myself. I can see that the OPPOSITE should be true. We should stick to our happiness routines when the going gets tough! I just haven't made that connection within myself yet.

Then again, I think sometimes we need to forgive ourselves and jump back on the horse, as was commented. If we give up and say, "Oh well, I'm lame and can't stick to anything" then that will become our truth. I would like to find some inspirational quotes or messages to myself that I can post somewhere obvious that will be an added kick in the pants to continue every day, even when I do miss my routine once in awhile.

Congratulations everyone!

Sudha - here's a suggestion - why not commit to "working on" a drawing every day. It doesn't have to be finished - nor is there a time limit - even if "working on" just means looking at it and thinking about what to do next that would still count.

Karla - I will look for a treasure trove of inspirational, motivational, quotes for you and post them.

As for me, I don't have time tonight to answer this post in depth. What happened with me is that I did an attunement a day every day all the way up until the Reiki 1 class, and then... I would just totally forget. The drive, the desire, and the "need" to do one just evaporated. I think it's because I got my "payoff" a couple of days early. So, I renegotiated with myself and decided that I could take some days off while I think about what to commit to next.

I did manage to take time to meditate every day. Some days did not feel as succesful as other days but I did manage to do it. I plan on and so far am continuing to meditate. I have to say I have really benefited from the practice. Life has been very stressful and I think this has been keeping me a little in the sane column. Okay Two Feathers I know sane is a litte questionable, but it has helped. :-) I am trying to think of another thing to add to my daily me time, something easy but meaningful. Can't wait to start the chant project.
