I am learning all sorts of things about myself through our project! I clicked on one of the Adsense ads that took me to Beliefnet, which is just an incredible site full of information about spirituality and health. I took their Belief-O-Meter quiz, and apparently my beliefs match most closely with Quakers! I had no idea! I didn't even know what Quakers believed. I had a 100% match with Liberal Quakers and only a 74% match with New Thought, which includes Unity. Now I'm going to have to find out more about the Quaker faith to find out if we're REALLY a match. :) Always fun to learn more about yourself!
It would be fun if others in our project took the Belief-O-Meter quiz at Beliefnet.com and posted what religion they matched with, and if they think it's accurate.
Correction: it's the Belief-O-Matic quiz - if you go to Beliefnet.com and click on Faiths & Practices, the quiz is the second option from the top on the drop-down menu.
Wow that was really fun, Thanks Melissa. I took the quiz and got 100% match with Mahayana Buddhism... I had no idea that I was a buddhist at heart!
I did score 91% on the liberal quaker, (which surprised me) and 90% on Hinduism which I expected would have been higher on the list. And the other interesting thing is that I scored over 70% on almost all of the religions... I have no idea what that means.. or if that's how it is for everyone since most religions are based on universal principles... "new thought" was way down on the list for me too...
Anyway.. that was really fun and enlightening. Thanks Melissa!
Oh... and by the way... I just skimmed the information on Mahayana Buddhism.. and so far I do think it's accurate.. I'm going to go back and study it.. research it.. and maybe even find a way to become a "practing" buddhist.
How about the rest of you guys????
Another friend who belongs to the Disciples of Christ church took the quiz and it said he is an Orthodox Jew! Too funny. It was right on the nose for my husband, who went to the Methodist church growing up. I read up a little bit about Quakerism at wikipedia.com, and I do think the liberal Quaker beliefs are a pretty good match for me, although I don't think I'd enjoy their particular style of church meetings. The lowest scores for me were for LDS/Mormons - 17% and Jehovah's Witnesses - 14%. I matched at 90% with NeoPaganism... Very interesting stuff!
