Our Archetypes

Saturday, November 03, 2007

I am reserving this page to post our chosen archetypes. As we determine what ours are, I'll put them here. If you have links to a page about your archetype, that would be helpful - but it's not necessary. If you would like to comment about why, or what it is about that archetype that appeals to you, that would be awesome because I think it will be helpful to those of us still in the deciding stages, and also, when we look back on this particular project, it might give some valuable insights into how things have unfolded.

If you are still fumbling around trying on different ideas, you might consider the following:

  • Major Arcana of the Tarot - The Fool, The Lovers, etc. ,
  • Animal Totems and Energies - Coyote, Mouse, Spider, White Buffalo, etc.
  • Modern Day Heroes - Mother Theresa, Princess Diana, Steve Irwin,
  • Modern Myths - Harry Potter, Frodo, Shrek, Captain Kirk, Superman,
  • Fairy Tales - Red Riding Hood, Santa Claus, Prince Charming,
  • A number of Jungian Archetypes can be found at meta-religion

I'm also like to choose an archetype for The Prosperity Project itself. So, if you have any suggestions or ideas, that would be great.

I've come up with my 3 archetypes. Here they are:

1. Strikes Two Woman. This is a woman shaman I wrote about over at . What appealed to me is the courage of her convictions, the image that I found to illustrate her looks alot like me, she conjures up thoughts of council fires, starry nights, medicine wheels, wolves, sweats, amulets, dreams, and herbs.

2. Friar Tuck. I haven't blogged him yet, but I intend to. When I thought of him, my first feeling was laughter bubbling up. And I have noticed an immediate lightening of my energy. He is a hermit, surrounded by friends and companions. A religious and spiritual yet irreverant person. He took a vow of poverty but he loves nice things. He is a rebel, and a warrior ... and at the same time appreciates the luxuries and the good. He enjoys a good pint of ale.

3. The Channel. I do not have a good "persona" for this yet. The words... "the channel" ... to me, means the ability to channel love, energy, information, wisdom. To be clear so that life moves through me in an effortless way. A "channel" is similar to the "oracle at delphi" without the pomp and circumstance, the ritual, the drama, or the power trip. When I come up with a persona, or an image for "the channel", I'll share it.

So... those are my 3. I must say that I am actually feeling a shift in my energy since I picked them. I feel lighter, more centered, less confused, and more optimistic.

I hate when I make typos... Strikes Two Woman is posted at http://shirleytwofeathers.blogspot.com in case anyone is interested. Look under posts tagged with "who I want to be" and you'll find her story.

My arhetype is the Courtesan. When I did the meditaiton for the second time I felt drawn to Athena, Aphrodite, The Wizard and Bacchus. But after speaking with a wise and dear friend it came to me that my life long fascination with Courtesan's rolls all into one. Lover's of beauty, objects of beauty. Even when they weren't traditonally or conventionally beautiful they were able to create the allusion of beauty and desirability. They were intelligent, well read, supporter's of the arts. They often inspired great works of art or feats in their friends/lovers. I have always wanted to live a life of beauty. I know that sounds corny but it's true. I felt a certain oneness and peace when these pieces came together, things kinda made sense.

i know it seems like too many at first, but i have picked five. they are a symbol of my working the 'way' around the medicine wheel to create balance. I chose to find an archetype for each of the five directions. the first and foremost is my chosen image of the god/goddess, that goes in the middle of the medicine wheel. I chose Freya, the Norse Goddess. In Norse mythology, Freya is a goddess of love and fertility, and the most beautiful and propitious of the goddesses. She is the patron goddess of crops and birth, the symbol of sensuality and was called upon in matters of love. She loves music, spring and flowers, and is particularly fond of the elves (fairies). Freya is one of the foremost goddesses of the Vanir.
She is the daughter of the god Njord, and the sister of Freyr. Later she married the mysterious god Od (probably another form of Odin), who disappeared. When she mourned for her lost husband, her tears changed into gold.
Her attributes are the precious necklace of the Brisings, which she obtained by sleeping with four dwarfs, a cloak (or skin) of bird feathers, which allows its wearer to change into a falcon, and a chariot pulled by two cats. She owns Hildesvini ("battle boar") which is actually her human lover Ottar in disguise. Her chambermaid is Fulla. Freya lives in the beautiful palace Folkvang ("field of folk"), a place where love songs are always played, and her hall is Sessrumnir. She divides the slain warriors with Odin: one half goes to her palace, while the other half goes to Valhalla. Women also go to her hall.

For the north direction, I have chosen White Wolf. She bears her young with the utmost protection and love, she teaches with love and extremity. She kills quickly, for the feeding of her pups, and abides no intruders.

For the east direction I have chosen Red Tailed Hawk. She flies far above, and sees all. through the golden sunrays she brings messages of spirit, and is always near me, around me and in me.

For the south direction I have chosen Horse. Horse is passionate, spiritually strong, physically untamed, flowing in the wind of truth. She is strong and fragile all at once. She is intelligent, and beautiful, and tames the men who try to hold her down with ropes by looking into their eyes with love. She carries my soul into adventures of spirit.

For the west direction I have chosen Owl. Owl is of the darkness, and of magick, and of wisdom. She flies with the utmost silence, and guides my soul when things are overwhelming, in emotional darkness. She is the protector of Grandmother moon, and the embodiment of wise mystery.

I know this seems like a lot, but i wanted to do this project in a familiar spiritual way, i know that based on my experience with these helper spirits, i will be able to work this project with the balance, fervor and sanctity that i feel when creating a medicine wheel.
